Former Idaho GOP Chairman and lieutenant governor candidate Steve Yates has announced the endorsement of former Vice President Dick Cheney.

In a letter to Yates, Cheney said, “The future of our Party and nation depend on our ability to recruit and elect men and women committed to the values upon which our republic was founded. I know firsthand your dedication and devotion to these principles. I share your conviction that we have an obligation to make certain our children and grandchildren have the same opportunities we’ve had. I am happy to support your efforts, and wish you every success in your campaign.”

“I am honored to have the support of such a distinguished national leader and influential conservative voice over many decades,” said Yates. "Serving in Vice President Cheney's office as a deputy national security advisor, I learned valuable lessons in leadership and service. I hope to bring these traits with me to the statehouse as Idaho's next lieutenant governor"
